3D Printing test

For that group project, it was required to test the design rules for our printer.

Our Printer is Makerbot Replicator 2. And to start that task, we had a team meeting to discuss and set things up.

We researched 3D Printers test and we found 2 test files that can test various parameters like:

And definetly, there is so much more...

After quite some research and team discussion, we found 2 files on Thingiverse that were pretty good for our test; and we divided the team into 2 groups, each will implement one and give remarks.

These are the 2 files:

1) Test your 3D printer! v3.

2) #3DBenchy - The jolly 3D printing torture-test.

File #1:

This file was a great test for the printer, It had many holes with different dimensions and also many inclined angle to test. The results came pretty different. The holes and shapes were fine but the half dome shape and the angles came very bad because of the Retraction. The retraction speed wasn't suitable to make the machine adjust the distance and time to retract and extrude again. Here are some pictures.

File #2:

This file was a great test for the printer, It had many shapes with different dimensions and also fine details to test.

For this file, we needed to measure the dimensions of th output VS the originally designed. You can find the dimesions in Here.

The results came pretty Surprising! The finishing was perfect but the dimensions were terrible! The variations in some dimensions varied uo to 0.8 mm!
